West London Golf Society's Men's Championship, held on the challenging Codrington course at The Players Club, proved to be a true test of skill and determination for the 36 golfers who participated.
A cohort of early risers teed it up to take on the par 3 Watergarden course as part of a collaboration with David Lloyd Hampton golf club's captain's charitable cause, with all player entry fees donated to the Shooting Stars Children's Hospice in Hampton.
Three players went round the course in 28 shots (one over par) but George Sheriff's strong finish secured the top prize on count back. Thank you to all who took part in this charitable initiative!
However, the real spotlight was on the main event, where the Codrington course lived up to its reputation of being a tough and demanding golfing challenge. With only four players managing to shoot their handicap or better, it was clear that the course was showing its teeth and pushing the golfers to their limits.
In the end, it was Trevor Dennison who stole the show with a remarkable four under par net score, securing his first-ever WLGS victory. His exceptional performance on such a demanding course undoubtedly earned him well-deserved accolades.
Moggy Islam also showcased his skills and determination, managing to post a commendable net 70, securing him the second-place position. Close on his heels was Bakthiar Hussain, finishing just one shot further back and rounding off the top three with a solid performance.
Apart from the overall winners, there were other notable achievements on specific holes during the event. Peter Waddell displayed remarkable power to win the Longest Drive on the 12th hole. Madanjit Singh demonstrated his precision with a fantastic shot, landing nearest the pin on the 2nd hole. Nash Majumder showcased his short game prowess by landing nearest the pin on the 16th hole. Finally, Moggy Islam once again proved his abilities by claiming the Nearest the pin in two on the 18th hole, adding to his list of accomplishments during the Championship.
Overall, West London Golf Society's Men's Championship was a challenging event that tested the golfers' skills and rewarded the best performances. With a strong display of sportsmanship and camaraderie, the participants made a positive impact on the charitable cause while enjoying a competitive day on the course. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for making it a memorable event.
