Champions crowned in Chepstow with an ace in the pack for Chairman Nash

Updated: Jul 25

The 2024 West London Golf Society Championships saw an impressive turnout, with 40 golfers journeying to the picturesque St Pierre Country Club in Chepstow, Wales.

This two-day event kicked off with a round on the shorter, yet tricky, Mathern Course, setting the stage the next day for the final round on the renowned Old Course, a former European Tour and Solheim Cup venue.

Day one's clubhouse leader in the mens was Pun Patel, who notched an impressive 37 points, but, after Monday's round on the Old Course, Sarwar Alam emerged victorious with a stellar combined points total of 77.

Paul Deane Williams (68) secured second place with commendable performances on both courses, and the consistent ball striking of Priyen Patel (67) was enough to clinch third place on countback from Simon Turner, demonstrating his competitive edge in a tightly contested field.

Veronika Wyper dominated the women’s competition, winning both days to finish with a total of 58 points. Her strategic play and precision were evident throughout the tournament as she recorded 31 points on day one and 27 on day two.

Last year's champion Kim Howe (53) took the silver medal, her consistent performance earning her a well-deserved second place. Zoe Turner (50) rounded out the top three on countback from Ingrid Deane-Williams.

A special highlight of the event was Nash Majumder achieving his first-ever hole-in-one on the 6th hole of the Old Course. This par-3 hole was also designated as the nearest-the-pin hole, making the emotional Chairman's accomplishment even more memorable. What a great memory Nash! Other winners from across the two days included Moggy Islam, Spencer Varley, Faisal Islam, Tariq Khandker and Kristina Larsson. Congratulations to all!

The Order of Merit points totals count double for the Championships, so Sarwar has shot up to top spot, leading Ian Davies by 5 points. Veronika's dominant diaply in Wales sends her straight into third place, two points behind leader Ingrid, and one behind Linda Sulman.
